Astigmatism >>>>

The eyes of the natural person take the spherical shape. Therefore in the natural conditions when light enters the eye it’s reflected evenly creating a clear view of a subject.

With astigmatism , the eye takes the shape of football or the back of the spoon. Therefore when the light enters the eye it’s reflected more in one direction than the other , allowing a certain part of the subject to be clear at the expense of another part.

Astigmatism occurs in the not completely round eye. It’s a type of the refractive errors as myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness) so it could be treated via glasses, contact lenses and corrective surgery. Astigmatism is found nearly in everybody but within degrees.

Why it occurs?

Astigmatism is the very common cause of blurred vision. But it’s reason still unkown.

What are it’s symptoms?

Lack of clarity of vision and blurred, especially with the fatigue or eye strain and blurred things. While these symptoms may not necessarily be a result of astigmatism of the eye you should be checked if you had one or more of these symptoms.

How it’s diagnosed?

Your doctor can diagnose it easily with a throughout eye examination. It may occur with other visual defects such as nearsightedness or farsightedness. Unfortunately, diagnosis is difficult in school age.

Because astigmatism is increasing slowly, you should visit a specialist eye care if you notice any change in your vision. Go to the optometrist who is trained to general public eye health who can diagnose and treat some eye diseases and describe glasses and contact lenses.

Or go to ophthalmology who also offers these services as well as earlier diagnosis and treatment of all diseases and also hold surgeries.

What is the treatment?

All degrees of astigmatism can be treated by eyeglasses or contact lenses correctly prescribed. But in the minor degrees of it there may be no significance to the use of lenses or eyeglasses, especially with the lack of the other defects such as nearsightedness or farsightedness. But with a medium or high degree, there are likely to need those corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses).

There are special lenses for astigmatism, named "Toric" lenses which have the ability of bending light in a certain direction from the other. After conducting the tests will be determined by your doctor ,you can have your perfect lenses.

Surgery

Another way to correct astigmatism by correcting the shape of the cornea. In spite of the existence of different types of surgeries. It’s recommend to be done in an individual basis specific with each patient.

These surgeries require healthy eyes free from retinal problems, corneal scars, or any other eye diseases. With the advancement of technology there is lots and lots of options from which to choose what suits you best.
